THE ICE ELF COMETH
I can’t think of a better way to start this whole tumbling thing off than with a post serving as a sacrifice to the Ice Elf that Matt Besser’s Björk can summon with… well, who even knows?! I did this out of pure joy, only to find out I’d soon be working on BOTH of Matt’s show logos on Earwolf. I’m looking forward to sharing more of all that I haven’t done AND have done, for Earwolf.
I thought it might be cool to see the sketch AND final product… right?
Of course I’m right. I’m also write. *cough* DON’T JUDGE ME!
EARWOLF POSTER PROCESS
Ever wondered how that fancy schmancy Earwolf poster came to be? I’ve got a secret, it started in a book that looks to be managed by a serial lunatic (me) and finally finished on a bonafide press. Here are the very first thumbnail sketches I produced when tasked with producing a poster in only a matter of weeks.
After that massacare, I finally started to narrow it down to a smaller handful of approaches. I rendered new art for final scans and then took to the computer to make them sexy and smooth.
When all was said and done, we settled on the mounted wolf head which you can just so happen to procure here. Jeff and Scott even sign it! As a little bonus to this “look back”, I went ahead and included some options that just didn’t make the cut — much to my chagrin. Oh well, perhaps they’ll see production one day.
EARDROP LOGO PROCESS
When Jeff told me about Eardrop I was stunned that no one had thought about doing this yet. I still think that dude’s ahead of the game on that one…
I started on this logo trying to go in as many directions as my little brain would allow. I showed the sketches and we decided to pursue two directions. A little work on the computer and I presented the team with The Wolf and The Sprite. They chose the sprite and that little devil is forever a piece of the Earwolf family!
And THAT boys and girls are where baby sprites come from.
WHAT’S UP HOTDOG?
The shirt that never was but always should have been. It’s almost tempting to start a petition for this… . almost.
WHO CHARTED LOGO PROCESS
I couldn’t have been luckier when I got the chance to work with Howard Kremer and Kulap Vilaysack in creating the chart-tacular Who Charted? logo. Not only are they hilarious, they let me stretch my feet a bit and do what like to do the most… DRAW!
The first version of this logo started rather simply. Howard said he wanted to be a scientist surrounded by charts and graphs and things of that sort. I said “no problem” and away we went! After a few explorations we settled on a direction and I finalized the artwork and put all the colorful goodness it was in place.
After a few months I was put with the charge of updating the logo to include both Howard and Kulap together as the team they were on air. I decided to give them a nice uniform, a few of their key show elements, and their trusty pet Hermes — the chart goose!
I never like to provide just one option, so a few color choices later we finally settled on what you see above.

PROFESSOR BLASTOFF LOGO
They said they wanted a professor with a lot of different things coming out of his head. Well, who doesn’t want to draw that!? My favorite part of it? The brain…it just looks neat.
Anyway, I gave the crew a few sketches and we eventually wound up with what graces their show now. The first few images were just initial teleportation ideas or time machines. More time machines please!
